Accelerated Shelf Life Testing
Waiting out a product’s full real-time shelf life before launch is not always practical, particularly for new product development or a tight launch schedule. Accelerated shelf life testing addresses this by exposing products to elevated temperature and humidity, commonly 40 degrees Celsius and 75 percent relative humidity, to speed up the natural degradation process under controlled conditions.
By deliberately stressing the product, laboratories can predict how it will behave over its intended shelf life in a fraction of the real time required, while still producing scientifically defensible results. This method is particularly useful for:
- Reformulated products
- New packaging trials
- Categories where manufacturers need a faster route to a defensible expiry date
